VJ Day Memorial Walk – Sunday 14th August 2022
To remember our dear friend, Len Gibson BEM and all the other FEPoW’s our charity founder, Brian Burnie has created the ‘VJ DAY Memorial Walk’.
This year Brian, cadets, military piper, membes of HMS Calliope and supporters will be walking from Sunderland Cenotaph at Mowbray Park to the War Memorial at St Thomas’ Church, Newcastle Haymarket. We’re asking everyone to join in parts of the walk – perhaps just a few yards, a few miles, or the whole distance to remember all Far East Prisnors of War aka the ‘Forgotten Army’. The epic walk will be covering parts of Sunderland, South Shields, Gateshead, and Newcastle. We would love YOU to join us or to cheer walkers on along the way.
It promises to be a special day, with multiple ‘fly passes’, military ambulances and Daft as a Brush ambulance parades, memorial services and entertainment from pipe bands and a bugler.
No tickets are required. Please show your support on this special day. Thank you.
