Charity Boss restarts epic walking challenge from Teesside to Torquay fulfil his promise.

Brian Burnie

Despite already completing the full distance around Great Britain and Ireland, Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care founder Brian Burnie, 78, has re-started his epic charity challenge.

Walking the entire coast of Great Britain and Ireland, cancer charity founder, Brian, was stopped in his tracks by covid.

When forced to return to Newcastle, he completed most of the remaining miles during lockdowns with laps of his back garden and neighbouring golf course to cover the distance between Torquay and Middlesbrough.

Supported by the charity’s volunteers and well-wishers, Brian’s boots are walking again from James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough to Torbay Hopsital in Torquay. He plans to fully complete his challenge in September 2022. Brian’s dream is to take the North East charity nationwide to create 1,000,000 free cancer patient journeys.

It’s been a real pleasure to meet so many well-wishers and those with close associations to cancer, everyone expressing the need for a ‘Daft as a Brush’ cancer patient transport in their area.

Brian has made it to Whitby! Walking from Middlesbro to Redcar and now Whitby. Today he’s walked over 24 miles to arrive in the Yorkshire seaside town by the 20-foot whale jaw bones.

A scorching day may seem like perfect walking conditions, but the 78 year old risks sunburn and exhaustion from the heat – We thank Daft as a Brush Volunteer Derek Wake for his companionship and support to Brian on this 1,000 mile challenge!!!!
